What a cool story, and what an inspirational woman! Thank you for sharing this.

You know, when I was little, I was fascinated with accounts of military medicine, brave nurses and doctors who who endured dangerous battlefields and unhealthy hospitals to care for wounded soldiers. The only women I remember reading about are Florence Nightingale and Clara Barton. Of course they were brave and inspirational, and each of them in their own way fought against sexism.

But it’s sad and telling that I never learned anything about this woman surgeon. What a great children’s book that would make!
