What a cool slice of history! I've written sometimes about gay culture, such as it was, in 1970s Des Moines, Iowa. But I don't have anything but my memories to go by. Our bars and night spots have largely been abandoned and forgotten. Even the Internet contains only the barest wisp of memory — of places and events that were monumental in the minds of a queer community that was mostly closeted by necessity.

How fortunate Birmingham is to have had a talented chronicler. Thanks so much for sharing this treasure!
