Well, you know, classicists are pretty clear amongst themselves about the commonality of homosexuality in the Hellenistic world, but until recently they've been pretty united in not actually writing about it. Kind of like certain Greek scholars remain highly invested in denying the Alexander the Great almost certainly had an intimate sexual relationship with Hephasteon.
Some of the most brilliant historical linguists I know can write dispassionately and with great erudition in their field, but the moment the subject of homosexuality comes up, they turn into raving third grade bullies.
And they say homophobia is a thing of the past.
