Well yes, which I think is what makes the rest of my story all the more distressing. All across Canada and the U.S., populist movements are springing up to frame parental rights as a euphemism from mistreating LGBTQ kids, and according to this survey also now the children of LGBTQ parents.
What a major change for the worse! (I've even seen stories out of Quebec about this in a negative perspective, though less than in the rest of Canada.)
I was pretty startled when I saw the study, which I first received in a press release from GLSEN, and which did generate a couple brief stories in the queer press.
But I'm saddened to see that most people aren't paying attention. I honestly expected this story would generate a lot of interest on Medium, but it's generated hardly any at all.
I find that sad and ultimately very discouraging. We need allies now more than ever, but it's very hard to stir interest about queer issues. It seems like the worst things get for us, the harder it is to get people's attention.
