Well, yes, I’m sure. But I think the large majority of people who still feel that way know better than to say so out loud, especially to a Black person.

Part of what made my interaction Saturday so shocking is that a professed “progressive” Christian dared talk about my “sinfulness” directly to me. Even after I cussed him up one side and down the other, he would not recant or apologize. He apparently felt no shame in stigmatizing me in the most profound, personal way possible.

I think his attitude is very common, all too common. We just haven’t gotten to a place where Christians constrained from expressing some of their most sickening teachings directly to the people they’re condemning.

I know that reaching that place won’t solve all our problems, but it’ll be (if we ever get there) a very significant milestone.
