Well, yes, all that is probably true, but the terminology the organization uses on its website is widely accepted as shorthand for signaling a church’s LGBTQ positions. I used this example because I found an excellent graphic to illustrate my story, but the graphic’s definitions of “welcoming,” “accepting,” and “affirming” are used by pretty much everybody in the LGBTQ Christian world.
