Well, this proposed new law hasn’t passed yet, and thanks to the leak in the Sunday Times, it might not.

Current UK laws and policies about trans people are very progressive and had been set to become more progressive. Boris Johnson is throwing a monkey wrench into just about everything, but in data I probably should have included in this already long article, something like 70% of Britons approve of the progressive transgender law the prior government had proposed, which would have made the UK a pioneer in transgender rights, dismantling medical gatekeeping for changing official records.

It’s very disappointing that proposal has been scuttled, but it’s heartening to know that so many people in the UK approved of it.
