Well, the dehumanization thing is my take, and I don't think that's the way the question has been posed. It actually is a little bit strange for the party not to be taking a position on why they're opposing a bill. There's usually at least some party line, so to speak.
It really is a bit odd that the GOP is silent in this case. It doesn't matter a whole lot, because the Democrats have the votes and the governor's signature one way or the other. But I'm puzzled. The GOP is obviously whipping the vote, so it must matter to somebody politically. (I mean, otherwise they'd just let everybody vote their conscience.) But whatever it is that has them so concerned to not go on the record with their votes, they seem equally to not want to talk about it.
