Well sure, in an ideal world we would not have to come out. We still do, largely because of religious people who teach that we are inherently immoral and broken. In the words of the Catholic Church, that we are depraved and intrinsically disordered.

In words of Protestant churches, that we are sinners and abominations.

It ain't easy to be out and proud, especially as youth, when you're raised in that environment.

I guess what it's just really been sticking in my crawl lately is that even Christians who think of themselves as leftist and/or progressive, insist to me that it's okay for churches to teach that we're depraved, that that's not a deal-breaker for them in terms of which religion they choose.

I throw up my hands when I see that. I feel so much pain. And the capacity for human evil just fills me with despair.
