Well said, all of it! As a queer person, I HAVE family values and always have. But the so-called defenders of family values don't care about that. They're busy fighting to see to it that only their own tribe — primarily White, Christian, cisgender, and straight — are acknowledged or privileged as family people.

Those LGBTQ folks who believe the family values crowd will accept them if they assimilate enough are deluding themselves.

The Speaker of the House of the United States Congress has spent much of his career advocating for the re-criminalizaton of same-gender sex. He wants adoption and fostering by same-sex couples to be illegal.

In Spain, the political party that touts itself as the party of family and faith recently came to power in the Madrid region. They passed a law the other day eliminating discrimination protections in employment for gay and trans people. The same law repealed a hate crime law protecting gay and transgender people.

Family "values" like that are the future if the Right around the world has its way.

Just ask U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten Buttigieg. They are as mainstream "family values" as you can get. White. Highly educated. Highly successful. Living the heteronormative, upper-middle-class dream, with adopted twin infants.

Nonetheless, the Right here savage them without mercy.

Family values, eh? Pah.
