Well, pretty much everyone in the story is as out as can be, most of the major characters having been HIV/LGBT activists of one kind or another. Coincidentally to your comment, though, Michelangelo Signorile, who makes a few appearances in the story, was one of the leading voices in the early 1990s calling for (and practicing) the intentional outings of closeted gay public figures.
