Well, my friend is a man who does his own laundry and his boyfriend's, but yeah. ;-) I watched a YouTube video the other day by a British guy who emigrated to Chicago and now makes humorous videos describing cultural differences that "got lost in the pond."
According to him, Brits do laundry in the kitchen because British houses tend to be much smaller (on average) than American/Canadian houses, so the tradition of setting aside a separate room just for the washing machine (and perhaps a deep sink and such) never developed.
