Well, I guess that's part of the story. But you leave out that both religions share something disgusting and horrifying – they often work very hard to force their beliefs on people who don't share them. Both religions treat queer people with a great deal of violence. Both religions often treat anyone who will not kowtow to their belief systems with a great deal of violence.

Christians in the United States are often very judgmental, arrogant, disgusting people. So are Muslims.

I'm not saying that the two religions are necessarily toxic and awful, but they often are. They share cruelty at their heart a great deal of the time.

I used to be a business owner in Hamtramck, Michigan, which has recently become a Muslim-majority suburb of Detroit.

As a business leader, I encouraged respect for diversity and tolerance of my Muslim neighbors – suggesting that the original Polish Catholic populations of Hamtramck could get along fine with queer people, Muslims, and everybody else — by respecting diversity.

Well, the Muslims on the Hamtramck City council have just turned around and spit in all of our faces. They have voted to disallow flying the rainbow flag from any municipal property, even during Pride. And they cited their religious and cultural values as justification.

Those Muslim city council leaders are pigs. In trying to force their religious beliefs on people who do not share them, they reveal themselves to be thoroughly disgusting people who don't hesitate to persecute and oppress.

And make no mistake, they cite their Islamic religion for why they're doing it. They have said point blank that we queer people are immoral. They don't hesitate to condemn us in stark terms with their religion.

That's what makes so many Muslims (and so many Christians) such disgusting people.

We queer folks are sick and tired of religious maniacs like those Hamtramck City council members telling us we are not moral. We're sick and tired of them passing laws to hurt us.

And we aren't blind. We see very clearly that Islam itself is a huge part of the problem, that a very disgusting part of the religion is the reason why so many Muslims judge us and hurt us.

You should never leave out that part of the story. You should never leave out that too many Muslims use their religion to hurt queer people.

And you should always urge people to fight against Muslims like that, to work as hard as they can to destroy those religious beliefs and cultural values.
