Well, everyone’s situation is different, Adam. There’s nothing wrong with getting paid for writing, of course, especially if you need the money. I just wish we were all on a level playing field. I’m trying to reach as large an audience as possible because as an artist, I believe in my work. I want to to put it out there for people to read.

Trust me, if and when Random House ever publishes the novel they accepted from me, I’ll take the money gladly. But for now, Medium is a very convenient e-publishing platform that I’m using because I need to be able to show my agent and publisher that I have a significant following and can pull my own weight selling books.

So, I get annoyed when Medium makes that more difficult by prioritizing locked articles for distribution. They weren’t doing that when I started on this platform. My stuff used to get an equal shake with everybody else’s. Frustrating.

Don’t even get me started on how they push New York Times articles over their own writers. lol
