Well, Claire, no. That’s not true. You could do a great deal more than just talk to people. You could write to your religious leaders and tell them that you demand that they stop teaching that we LGBTQ people are “depraved,” “disordered,” “ordered toward great moral evil,” and “sinful.”

You could tell them that you cannot in good conscience support an institution that teaches such vile, evil doctrines. While you’re at it, you could tell them that you cannot abide associating with an organization that is working to prevent condom distribution in Africa and spending millions of dollars in legal fees in the United States and around the world to prevent children from being fostered and adopted by LGBTQ families.

You could tell Francis that you will not stand for his bigoted assertion that LGBTQ families are not real families.

You could tell them that unless they cease their evil teachings and practices that you will leave the Church.

And then you could follow through.

You are directly responsible for the horrors of the Church, Claire — you and every other lay and religious member of the Church who accepts that evil and who continues to support the Church despite that evil. The evil will only end when you and people like you refuse to put up with it any longer.

All you can do is talk to people?

I don’t think so.
