We see the same thing in Ireland with response to horrific Church mistreatment of unmarried mothers and their children. The Church has fought tooth and nail to avoid taking responsibility, and above all to avoid letting go of any of their money. One order of nuns resisted admitting guilt for decades, despite overwhelming evidence of their members' moral depravity and cruelty.

Only after an independent government report released reams of documents demonstrating clearly how much harm individual nuns and leaders of the order had done did anything change.

And the change was tepid. The order released an antiseptic admission of guilt that seemef to lack basic humanity and decency. It was not heartfelt. It was legalistic, bare-boned, and the minimum anyone could expect.

Have the sisters unclenched their money-grubbing fists? Not one tiny bit. In the face of public outrage they admitted they might be a tiny bit at fault, but they will not pay up. They claim their order would be harmed if they had to pay. They're going to take it to court and they're going to drag it out and they're going to do everything they can to avoid paying.

Because they are evil. I mean that seriously. They value their order, their property holdings, and their businesses more than they value the people they hurt.

They lack decency, and they lack understanding of what morality means.
