We might start finally making progress when we teach this truth to all of our children in school. Our real history matters, but now we mostly feed kids pallid pablum that withholds the crueler realities.

If German kids can learn about the real horrors of the Holocaust (and they do!) American kids can learn about the American Holocaust.

The fact that we withhold it from them does us great discredit as a people, and represents a national shame of the highest order.
