We do hear the correct pronunciation, though, here in the US. Newsreaders and public figures are apt to say it right. I think at least many educated Americans know how to say the city name. I mean, I know, though I don’t recall how I know. I certainly knew BEFORE I moved to Canada, so that doesn’t explain it.

It’s very odd that Google doesn’t seem to be able to correct it.
