We could add to this that the Baptists you name and the movements they led were instrumental in setting up so-called segregation academies in which Baptist children were educated in Whites-only private Christian schools.

They popularized the notion of private Christian education, as a matter of fact, which is now eroding and threatening public education. Today, many of those same schools are de facto segregation academies when it comes to LGBTQ people. I've written many stories about the subject, including two stories about very young children being expelled from these schools because their parents were same-sex couples. I've written about these schools expelling staff because they didn't toe the line on condemning LGBTQ people.

On the subject of Rick Warren, by the way, let's not be too kind to him because of his outlier views on women in church. Warren is a disgusting piece of homophobic shit. He condemns queer people wholeheartedly and with vicious language.

LGBTQ people were shocked, distraught, and furious when President Obama invited Warren to deliver the invocation at his inauguration. Obama had mixed positions on queer issues while he was president, although he was generally progressive. But many queer people have never forgiven him for supporting Warren, who is our vicious enemy.
