We all grow up to one extent or another internalizing the idea that sex is dirty or dangerous except in exactly the right circumstances. I think everyone is harmed by that, and harmed a lot, but women are directly in the crosshairs in ways men are not.

Man who have sex with multiple partners are studs, while women are sluts.

The stud paradigm harms men, even though it's complimentary in a way, because it encourages men to shut off emotional intimacy and vulnerability. To be the stud who notches his scorecard.

But the psychological damage the stud paradigm causes is indirect, and I don't think comparable in scope to the direct reputational and social damage women suffer when they're labeled as sluts.

Nonetheless, it really is time for men and women to work intentionally to deprogram ourselves and work past all the damage caused by the idea that sex is fraught and toxic most of the time.
