Violence, yes. Neglect and abuse, also.
Last Thursday, I published an interview with a transgender boy and his mother who literally fled Florida to take up residence in a New York homeless shelter. Their Palm County community was so hostile to them that they believed leaving Florida was their only option for any kind of decent life. They had to impoverished themselves to seek out a decent life.
This is also a result of terrorism.
Thursday night I went on Rated LGBT Radio to discuss that interview and the effects of stochastic terrorism with trans activist and author Brynn Tannehill, who has been sounding the stochastic alarm for almost a year now.
This morning, I'm confronted with more evidence as I learn that another family I interviewed recently is trying to raise money to get out of Texas, because their child cannot survive there.
As Brynn and I discussed, the effects of stochastic terrorism are not coming at some point in the near or midterm future. They are here, right now, today – even if they don't (yet?) manifest as shootings or lynchings.
Queer families in certain red states are suffering terribly, and I'm very much afraid too people know that, or at least too few people appreciate how seriousness things are.
