Violence levels against transgender and other LGBTQ people are already surging. The Republican party has made clear that the 2024 election will center demonizing queer people. Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis are going to race each other to the bottom as they compete to see who can be more homophobic and transphobic.

And traditional institutions like the New York Times will make excuses for them, just like they made excuses yesterday for Tennessee's anti-drag law.

We're in for an exceptionally violent few years, I'm afraid.
