Very much so.

I think scholars have found that most of the white people fighting for civil rights were from mainline Protestant or Catholic traditions, while white evangelicals (with a few prominent exceptions like members of the evangelical Jesus Movement) tended to rally to the defense of segregation.

It’s just interesting to me how many of us have forgotten our history. When I was a small boy, I sat in more than one pew listening to more than one evangelical preacher condemn mixed marriage and school integration as actual sins.

And that was such a short time ago! I’m not even quite 60 yet.
