Vaccine mandates have been common and relatively uncontroversial in the United States for generations.

The spell of crazy we’re going through – and let’s call it what it is, Trumpism — is a cynical ploy by senior Republican leaders to gain political advantage for the Republican Party even though it means people have to die.

The trouble is, too many of the crazies believe the nonsense.

I’m heartened, though, by Governor Newsom’s landslide victory in California yesterday. Republicans tried to make the recall election about “freedom,” mask mandates, and vaccines. It didn’t work. It didn’t even come close to working.

Polls seem to show the governor of Florida falling in popularity based on his unwillingness to take covid seriously.

Maybe we’re turning a corner, I don’t know. I sure hope we are, and that leaders preaching to the crazies for political gain eventually get their due.
