Typically, people who quote Bible (or Quran) verses calling for the death of LGBTQ people claim they are merely practicing their religion by spreading God’s word. Interestingly, this happened a couple years ago in Poland when a Catholic employee at an Ikea store posted one of those “kill the gays” Bible verses to a company intranet in response to a company-wide recognition of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT). Management asked him to take the post down, and when he refused, they fired him, citing company policies against inciting violence. The Catholic Church had a cow, bishops and priests going on a Poland-wide rampage over Ikea not allowing the man the “freedom of religion” to quote sacred texts that literally call for killing gay people.
Several weeks later, Poland erupted in violence as priests and bishops incited mobs that beat the shit out of LGBTQ people all over the country. Hardly surprising, eh?
