Tyger Songbird just published an essay in Prism & Pen about how evangelicals in the United States are working to export corporal punishment abroad, through missionary work and political activism in nations like Brazil.
Creepy? You bet. As well laid out in the quotes you provided.
I experienced a little bit of that sort of thing myself in Christian schools as a tween and early teen, having to drop my pants to my ankles, bend over, and let a grown man hit my nearly naked ass with a wooden paddle that had holes drilled in it. After the painful episode ended, I was expected to shake his hand or maybe even hug him.
This is normal in Evangelical culture in many places in the United States.
It's beyond me why this is a practice Christians want to promote.
