Two decades ago the justices were arguing over whether it might occasionally be permissible for the state to fund religious instruction if funding the religious instruction was incidental to and not central to state aims. They barely allowed it might be okay sometimes.
We've gone from that to a position in which the state has an affirmative obligation to fund religious instruction.
That's not just astonishing, it's perverse.
