Torah claims that abuse of women and girls is pretty high, and on her website, she points to some limited data to back that up. She says that in her experience, Amish women and girls have a very difficult time stopping abuse, because women in the Amish world are very subordinate to men. Amish women around here live on isolated farms with little transportation. I can understand how a teenage girl would feel completely trapped. Unlike her English peers, she does not attend high school, has no meaningful contact with non-Amish people, and doesn’t even have access to a phone to call 911.
