This response might have surprised you a little, but it doesn’t surprise me at all. I grew up in a very mainstream Evangelical world. Baptist, both Independent Baptist and GARBC. I can’t count the number of times I heard from the pulpit that Americans are God’s new chosen people to replace the Jews.
I don’t know if that’s orthodoxy insomuch as it’s officially taught in seminaries or endorsed by denominational bodies. But it is taken as non-controversial fact by a broad swath of American Evangelical Christians, who would probably be fairly startled if you were to push back against the idea.
