This reminds me of Vice President Mike Pence announcing that he would not dine alone with a woman or go to an event with a woman where alcohol is served unless his wife were present.
He used some sort of Christian sexual justification for that, something about a “Billy Graham” rule.
Now, I fiercely hate Billy Graham (or did when he was alive) because of his strong and toxic homophobia, something Pence famously bought into.
But it’s worth pointing out that the sexism is just as bad.
Here we have a high government official who deprived professional women of ordinary opportunities to network and be treated equally to men. Why? Toxic Christian sexism.
It almost feels like something out of the past, but it still happening, and yes, apologies are definitely in order.
