This really IS a huge problem, and it’s one that progressive people living in liberal areas rarely or never encounter. As a nation, we’re so divided that it’s hard for many people to understand that even though homophobia and anti-LGBTQ bigotry exist in a minority of the population, that minority means HUGE numbers.

In the study I cited, 34,000 LGBTQ young people were selected at random. 14,300 of them at attempted suicide after undergoing conversion therapy.

This is a peer-reviewed paper with rock solid methodology. The numbers are shocking.

Yet calls for religious liberty somehow prevail anyway. That’s outrageous.

BTW, I agree with you that we need new terminology, but it’s funny, “conversion therapy” is the term preferred by LGBTQ youth advocates, while people in favor of the practice tend to call it “reparative therapy” or other, even milder terms that tend to cover up the actual objective of altering how people experience sexual attraction.
