This point is actually controversial in some Christian circles. Theologians have disputed that Mary ever lost her virgin status and have argued that her other children must have been her step children. Seriously. That’s how invested they are the Madonna/Whore thing.

When certain Christians pray to The Virgin, they pray to Mary who they believe was always a virgin and will always be a virgin. Her virgin status is critical to them. They think it’s praiseworthy and more important than just about anything else about her.

I think it’s creepy they would care so much about a woman’s sexual status. Elevating the “virtue” of women never having sex is a toxic component of some forms of Christianity that just won’t go away.
