This is such a horrific story than I've been following closely in the francophone press. The only silver lining is that the French public seem to be about as outraged as you quite rightfully are.

The judge has been exoriated day after day in official op-eds and in opinion pieces by thought leaders.

Of course, that doesn't fix things, but it's a sign that (just maybe) this case is going to wake some people up.
