This is so obviously true to me, from my perspective as an actual gay man, that it took me a long time to realize that some people genuinely believe drag is a sexual fetish.
And that's such an insulting, restrictive, and unimaginative point of view. Gay men do drag (or consume drug as entertainment) for lots of reasons – because it's a subcultural norm, because it's rebellious, because it's ironic commentary, because it's protest, because it's fun, and because it's fabulous.
Sexual attraction just isn't in the mix. How could it be? You take a guy and layer him up with all sorts of tight clothing and over garments that hide his body and reshape it to make him look like a woman. Then you paint his face to make him unrecognizable.
Sexual attraction? Seriously?
It's hard for me to understand how cis/straight people could think drag is about sex when it so obviously is not.
But then, they could bother to listen to us if they wanted to truly understand.
