This is so necessary. I have a good friend who received his board certification in psychiatry two years ago and his hospitaler credentials a year ago. His knowledge of transgender issues is almost non-existent. A few paragraphs out of a couple of textbooks is about the extent of it.

To his credit, he is very open-minded and more than willing to learn, but the fact that he could become fully certified while lacking the basic vocabulary to talk to transgender people respectfully illustrates a critical problem. The medical community has a lot of work to do.
