This is horrifying but far from surprising. US police culture, and that includes jailkeeper culture, is simply barbaric. Cops and jailkeepers routinely and intentionally dehumanize the public. They are quick to violence, even deadly violence, and they believe they are justified in treating human beings like animals.

In fact, it's the cops who are the animals, inculcated as they almost always are with cruel, bullying, vicious values.
