This is an excellent example of the weakness of trying to use the Bible as an explicit morality manual. Two perfectly plausible interpretations for this text have been forwarded, and both are frequently discussed in Christian circles.

Pouring through the Bible to look for a verse to pin down the applicability of either interpretation in a given situation would be a fruitless endeavor.

“What would Jesus do" and “What does the Bible say" are not questions with simple answers as many (mostly conservative) Christians suggest.

Indeed, acknowledging complexity and the difficulty (or perhaps sometimes the impossibility) of interpreting biblical passages for relevance in contemporary times, is what sets mainline Protestant Christians apart from Evangelicals, Pentecostals and others who take a rigid, moralistic, and frequently judgmental view of others based on their religious faith.
