This is actually not at all uncommon in the world of gay men. While we have a not-unjustified reputation for having plenty of sex and not always keeping it inside pair-bonding relationships, there is a flip side.

Many gay men, and I think much more so than straight men, form intense platonic friendships that become singularly important.

And being less socialized to traditional intimacy-averse masculinity, we often are not afraid to say those relationships are about love.
