This is a very sort of traditional Christian statement to queer people, and I cannot count the number of times I’ve heard it from friends and family.

Not so much anymore, because I have avoided forming friendships with traditionalist Christians. I don’t want my heart broken again.

I have never ceased being surprised somebody could say that to me and think that they would not break my heart. I ask myself what they think they could mean by that. They can’t love my partner? They hate that I fall in love with the wrong sorts of people? They hate something inside me predisposes me to falling in love with people they disapprove of?

Or maybe they hate me because they believe my falling in love with the wrong sorts of people is a sign that I’m rebelling against God.

In any case, I’ve had enough rejection in my life. I really don’t care to analyze what they’re saying when they say that.

I just go away.
