This is a very common cultural practice in much of Europe too, which I discovered when I moved there in my early twenties.

I wish we had that practice in the United States! I wish we were more social. In many places here, gathering in a public park after sundown is often looked on with great suspicion, and sometimes even treated with hostility by local police.
