This is a sustained chorus that has played constantly to the story of my life as an activist.

But people who say things like this are obviously thoughtless. Where do they suppose the progress began? How do they suppose it happened at all? How do they suppose it might continue?

It happened to because people like you and me dared to rock the boat. It did not happen because people are just lovely and wonderful and will eventually do the right thing if you don't push them.

It's hard to imagine how anybody could think something like that, but people do think it. It's wild!

I had a couple interactions with your commenter yesterday, and he made it crystal clear that he's actually opposed to transgender equality.

He told me explicitly that trans people living their truths prevents other people living their truths. He did not specify how, but his statement is clearly false to the point of ridiculous.

No trans people are trying to force other people to live as trans. No queer people are trying to force other people to live as queer.

The live truths of non-queer people are under precisely zero threat from us, unless you want to take the position that opressing queer people is an important truth that people must live.

Your commenter has steadfastly avoided replying to me on that point. Perhaps he learned something. I hope so.
