This is a page ripped right out of the U.S. police playbook. Publishing the names of people suspected of having gay sex is a long police tradition here, and one that didn't end when our Supreme Court declared that gay sex is Constitutionally protected.

The police continue to search for reasons to publish names, and I've written three or stories in the past five years about the ongoing practice.

I don't know any of this Egyptian history, however, and I'm so glad you're writing about it to call attention.

Homophobia is such a destructive force. It's so cruel. It serves no purpose. We queer people have as much human right as any other human being to seek love and personal fulfillment in our lives. To have intimate lives. To be seen as the ordinary and healthy people we are.

I salute your courage in the struggle to bring decency and love to your society.

Thank you!
