This is a matter of vital interest for LGBTQ people, particularly transgender people and gay men who are often harassed by the police, especially in the South.
Arresting same-sex couples for “lewd" behavior — that doesn’t rise to the level of lewd if straight people are involved — is a common tactic.
Cops arrest, and then name and shame by publishing mugshots. The cases are usually thrown out of court, but that doesn’t un-destroy any lives in conservative communities.
Cops in the South have even taken the tactics online, making up ludicrous pandering charges based on people agreeing to get together for sex on Grindr.
Imagine living in a conservative Southern community and having your name appear on a web page or in a newspaper because you had a private sexual encounter with someone that you arranged on an app designed for that purpose.
And then some pig crashes the party and arrests you.
This happens, and it happens more than you might imagine. Just one of the reason that I thoroughly despise cops, who tend to be disgusting people and horrible bullies.
Cops are pigs, just let it be said. If you’re a cis/straight white person, you might not agree with that statement. But if you’re a member of minority, you know cops are pigs.
Lots of us were really excited about the whole “defund the police" movement, expecting major reform would come of it. But none did. The pigs are winning.
