This is a huge problem in the United States, and the fight is not going well. My home state of Michigan is something of a hub of this abhorrent practice.
Where I used to live in Detroit, I ran with a crowd that included several professors from Wayne State University. One of them is a woman originally from Egypt. One evening at a cocktail party, she passionately defended mutilating girls. I called her a vile name and stormed out of the party and refused to attend to any events where she would be present. Just seeing her made my skin crawl.
Unfortunately, some of my friends continued to treat her as if she were a decent human being. She socializes with educated persons as if she were not a monster. It’s horrifying.
Speaking of monsters, a woman doctor in Detroit developed quite a busy practice as a mutilator of little girls. She was eventually arrested on federal charges after sexually mutilating girls who had crossed state lines. That made big headlines.
Sadly, the headlines were rather smaller when the feds dropped the most serious charges. She has so far suffered no legal consequences for her cruel and depraved behavior, and is unlikely to.
Worse, as far as I am aware, she still has admitting privileges in the Henry Ford hospital system. It’s astonishing that we allow something so disgusting and horrific to go on right under our noses.
