This is a great history, thanks!
In some ways Australia is greatly in advance of the United States. Our Supreme Court did not decriminalize homosexuality across the land until 2003. And they did so because Texas was actively trying to criminally punish two gay men for having sex in the privacy of their own bedroom in the home they owned together.
Texas wanted those men to go to jail.
Recently, conservative members of our Supreme Court have made it known that they consider the prior decision to have been wrongly made, and they want to overturn it.
Texas wants its law back. Senior Republican leaders in the Texas state government want to put gay people in jail for having sex.
So, we have a lot of work to do in that area.
And I'm sure I don't have to tell you how much conservative states are going to war against trans and non-binary people. Youth and adults.
All of our history is still a work in progress, and I'm interested to see how yours differs feom and is the same as ours, depending on where you look.
Thanks for sharing!
