Things are pretty far gone right now. Here in the United States we have avowed white supremacist, anti-semitic groups like the Proud Boys and the Patriot Front showing up at Pride events screaming transphobic profanities and committing violence.

The Patriot Front are literal neo-Nazis. They split off from another neo-Nazi group a few years ago in Texas over a branding dispute. They didn't want the word Nazi in their actual name, although they retain all of their former beliefs.

But here in the US, those groups are often applauded and embraced by people on the right — even serious, mainstream people.

Somebody in one of my comment sections recently told me to stop calling Proud Boys and Patriot Front members white supremacists and neo-Nazis, because, "That's just inflaming passions. You're doing to them what you're asking them not to do to you [queer people]."

That's how far gone we are. People are seriously suggesting that we stop hurting the feelings of actual white supremacists and actual neo-Nazis.

Never in a million years would I have predicted we would ever be this far gone.
