There’s another possibility. Men are known to respond sexually with stronger erections and ejaculations when in the presence of other men with erections. Sexuality experts theorize that the so-called “sperm competition cue" produces a strong, unconscious response not usually accompanied by feelings of sexual attraction.

Supposedly, this results from natural selection far back during primate evolution when male primates who responded to sexual competition with a stronger ejaculation and more semen were more likely to reproduce.

Some experts speculate that this is why straight men prefer watching porn in which mixed sex couples feature. Their bodies respond unconsciously to the sight of another man or men with erections.

This would of course have nothing to do with them being gay or straight as they would not even be aware of the response. But it might show up anyway if researchers weren’t careful to control for it when trying to assess sexual attraction.
