There's a lot of breaking news on this story, by the way. The state's attorney general ordered the charges against the man dropped. Of course, he had already spent 24 days in jail.
The police department says they're conducting an investigation, but the police union is backing up these vicious cops 100%, insisting they did nothing wrong.
And what many people are asking is how could a district attorney file charges against the man in the first place. Apparently, they reviewed the body cam footage and they still charged him with felonies. Then they went up in front of a judge, who approved the charges and set a high, cash-only bond that the man could not possibly pay.
If it hadn't been for the NAACP getting involved and raising hell, he'd still be sitting in jail, and he probably would have eventually been sentenced to a long term in prison.
We have a huge problem in this country with racist, brutal cops. Cop culture in this country is just depraved. Your average police officer is a brutal thug.
And we haven't even begun to face up to the problem yet.
