There is much the university could do practically to limit disruption and threats to LGBTQ students without bringing down court interference or impacting actual free speech. But given the university president’s statement, which frames the problem in morally neutral terms, she’s clearly the wrong human being for the job. She lacks decency and a true moral center.

If neo-Nazis or racists had been doing this, I have no doubt she would have denounced them boldly and plainly, even if her hands were not completely free to act. The most disturbing part of all of us is that she did NOT denounce the bigot. In fact, her written statement reads as an exercise in victim blaming.

In fact, she praises students for accepting their degradation. That’s horrifying.
