Then of course we have the problem that historical critical scholars are pretty sure that at least two of the Epistles are forgeries (and thus (presumably?) can’t be inspired) and that the ending of one of the gospels was tacked on by scribes rather than the original author. Which is just … if Sola Scriptura has any validity at all, how do you deal with those uncomfortable facts?

Have you read Solus Jesus: A Theology of Resistance by Ken Wilson and Emily Swan? They propose a third path. Whether you end up agreeing with their conclusions or not, the book is a fascinating read and a very interesting peek into cutting-edge contemporary Christian thought.
